A spectacular ridge trail above Vaduz, equipped with handrails on the exposed sections, reserved for experienced hikers seeking a thrill and vertiginous views over the Rhine valley.
The Fürstensteig ("Prince's Trail") is Liechtenstein's most famous hiking route, and by far its most impressive: a narrow ridge linking the Bettlerjoch to the Gafleispitz, with exposed sections along rock faces secured by chains and metal handrails, though it isn't a full via ferrata requiring a harness. Vertigo is not negotiable here — you'll need sure footing and good fitness, as the hike involves several hundred metres of elevation gain and 4-5 hours of walking. In return, the reward is a unique panorama over the Rhine valley, the Swiss Alps and, on a clear day, all the way to Lake Constance. Access is usually from Vaduz or Triesenberg, making it an ideal day trip from a hotel in the capital. The properties selected here are all in Vaduz, close to the trailheads and the Malbun massif often combined at the end of the route.
