15 August, the Feast of the Assumption, coincides in Liechtenstein with National Day (Staatsfeiertag), celebrated since 1940. The day opens with a church service and a speech from the Prince on the castle balcony, followed in the late afternoon by a rare invitation: the private gardens of Vaduz Castle, closed to the public the rest of the year, open for a public reception mixing locals and visitors. The evening closes with fireworks over the valley, visible from across the town. It's one of the few days when normally quiet Vaduz sees real crowds — booking ahead is essential.
