The rustic rooms and dormitories, with pine-wood beds, offer a warm, authentic setting after a day's hike. The large garden terrace, right on the water's edge, and the cosy restaurant welcome hikers, families and groups around carefully prepared mountain cooking featuring regional specialities. Open from mid-April to the end of October, Tuesday to Sunday (Monday is the rest day), the inn is an essential stop for anyone exploring the Alpstein, between a refreshing swim in the lake and hikes towards the Ebenalp or the Schäfler. A charming address where time seems to slow down before this glacial mirror of water.

Berggasthaus Seealpsee sits right on the shore of the Seealpsee, at 1,141 metres above sea level, in the Alpstein massif (Appenzell Innerrhoden). It can only be reached on foot, after a walk of roughly 50 to 70 minutes from Wasserauen, the last village served by road and rail. Surrounded by steep limestone cliffs, the site is one of the most photographed in eastern Switzerland and a must-stop en route to the Ebenalp, the Schäfler or the Rotsteinpass, amid unspoilt alpine scenery.
